February's full moon is called a Snow Moon, and here you will see the full Snow Moon moonset in London. Right between the City skyscrapers.
If you have been following me for some time, you know I'm a sucker for a good moon photo. The moon is, in fact, featured a lot in this blog:
- Photo Mission: Moonrise (YouTube)
- Going After the Super Snow Moon
- On The Hunt For The Super Blood Wolf Moon
- The Pink Supermoon
- How To Photograph the Supermoon
- Info and Planning
Not to mention my one-of-a-kind picture of the Blue Supermoon over London (everybody else got the day wrong, blame bad weather).
I'm sure there will be more in the future as well. It's just a subject that I love shooting.
And at least for now, it also differentiates photographers from smartphone shooters. This kind of photo is just not possible with a smartphone (yet).
If you wish to join me in photographing the full moon in all its splendour, I regularly host a Full Moon Photography event in London.
More info and bookings are available on the dedicated page.
So, this moonset…
The downside is its inconvenience.
I had to wake up early again for this moonset timelapse. Always aware that this could turn into another failure after multiple attempts with the Tower Bridge sunrise (successful in the end, check the post here).
And once again, it is a Holy Grail Night-To-Day timelapse, using the same settings and technique I described in the Tower Bridge video.
I think what's really amazing about this specific moonset timelapse is that the moon sets exactly as the sun rises, so the colours in the sky are just beautiful.
I spent about 2 hours in the cold but again the new battery of the Fujifilm X-T4 did not disappoint: it went on with the time-lapse for 1400 shots, and the battery was still half full.
Coming from years of shooting with Fujifilm, the battery is what keeps surprising me. And the GFX100S will use the same battery, which is fantastic news! :)
I can't say the same about the Fujifilm X-T2, the other camera I used in this video. It is still a great camera, but the battery doesn't last long enough and here it also consistently failed me with its autofocus…
So, apologies for all the times I went out of focus while talking. It was difficult to set the camera to manual focus here, but I'll definitely do it next time.
As I say in the video, everything is a learning experience! :)
The Video
Anyway, here's my Snow Moon moonset in London time-lapse. I let you enjoy it.
I thought I'd find some of the London Timelapse Crew at the location where I went. But in the end, it was me and my cameras… And a lovely couple who stopped to say hi.
I'll see you next time!
Cheers.
