I decided I'd try a different format for my YouTube vlog and embark on a Photo Mission to shoot the moonrise in London. To be completely honest, the idea came up while I was editing my footage. But all I filmed made perfect sense in such a format, so I decided to put it together this way.
I had not really decided to go out to take the resulting shot, mainly because it was not exactly a full moon. In fact, I was home editing some other photos. But my friend Martyn texted me about a possible moonrise alignment with Tower Bridge, so I decided to give it a shot (pun intended).
Packed my gear, took the big tripod to counter the wind, and the phone gimbal to film me on the way to my location.
I think this came out well in terms of rhythm. It's fast-paced while on my way to London Bridge. Then slows down while waiting for the moonrise to happen. Then the exciting timelapse and the photo come out. There's even a twist at the end, lol!
It's a fairly different format because I used to show multiple photos in one video when doing street photography POV, while here it's the whole journey to achieve one photo. It's something that I will do again, with a bit more planning ahead. But let me know in the comments if you enjoyed it!
The Video
Aside from the spectacular photo, I think the whole journey is worth watching. Well, that's why I made this video in the first place! Anyway, here it is:
And as usual, here's the direct link in case the embed doesn't work:
In a few weeks, it will start getting dark earlier, so I may do something at night too… We'll see! In the meantime, if you want to see more of my moon photography, you can read my posts here, here and here.
And if you wish to join me in photographing the full moon in all its splendour, I regularly host a Full Moon Photography event in London!
More info and bookings are available on the dedicated page.
‘Till next time! Cheers!
