Abstract wallpapers for your smartphone

Everybody loves abstract wallpapers and free stuff, right?

I installed a new app called Spectre on my iPhone. It's made by the same guys behind the Halide app. Which is, right now, one of the best camera apps for smartphones.
But Spectre's purpose is to help you with long-exposure photography. So you won't find it if you look for something to create abstract wallpapers.
I mainly use it when I'm out, to capture movement. For example, I used it to shoot some smooth water from waterfalls or to display light trails at night.

Spectre has a clever way of using stabilisation. Technically you could shoot without a tripod, but I still recommend you use a small one.
My favourite is the Manfrotto Pixi EVO 2, because I can carry it everywhere and can easily hold my Fujifilm camera. I also attached a small panoramic head to it, which I find super useful, but that's probably just me being geeky, haha.

So, I installed Spectre and used it for some time, enjoying the new possibilities. I dedicated all my Instagram Stories (@fabienb) for an entire week to Spectre photos alone. And I must say the response was quite positive.

A different approach

But then I realised I could use it in a slightly different way. By setting the longest exposure (9 seconds) and intentionally moving the phone, I was able to create abstract images that I found quite pleasant.
It was all trial and error really, and a lot of photos were pure rubbish. But eventually, I was able to produce good ones too.
In most of my tries, it worked better with the light trails option off, but I got a couple good ones with that on too. And that's how I created a series of daily abstract wallpapers in my Stories.

As of today, I don't know of any Android alternative. Even the Moment app enables this long exposure feature only on iOS (technically, because it uses the Live Photo functionality).
Please comment below if you know any.

It was really fun to play with.
