My Fujifilm XF100-400 Zoom Lens Review

I received the Fujifilm XF100-400 F/4.5-5.6 zoom lens from Fuji (not sponsored, I requested it as part of the Fujifilm Photographers programme I’m in).
And so I went to test it in the woods, even though I don’t normally photograph much wildlife.

I had an idea for a photo of the full moon (more on that during the video)… You know that I’m always keen on a good moon photo. Hence why I asked Fujifilm to send me the lens. But I also wanted to use it to its full capabilities in the field. Access to sports events was not an option, so the woods were the obvious choice.

I went to a few locations in London to photograph the wildlife and I immediately enjoyed this Fujifilm XF 100-400 F/4.5-5.6 zoom lens. It is fairly big, compared to the lenses I’m used to in the Fujifilm ecosystem. But it’s still manageable, at least with the X-T4 body. And the image quality is really superb.
I believe I snapped a few great photos with it.

If you’re curious, the locations of the video are St James’s Park, Richmond Park and One Tree Hill.

The Video

All the photos I include in this video are unedited, except for the 4-5 I clearly specify the work I did on them. This way, you can really appreciate the quality images that this lens produces.
In the next days, I will publish here a couple galleries with all the final versions of my images so come back for that!

Here is the video:

But then, if the Fujifilm XF100-400 is so good, why am I not buying it? Well, I contemplated the purchase for a long time, but there are a few reasons why I don’t think it is a wise purchase for me. And let me be clear: for me and my photography. In case you want to buy it, by all means go for it!
Also, it is rumoured that Fujifilm will release a 150-600mm in 2022, so maybe it’s better to wait for that… Which is of course just another excuse to procrastinate more ;)

Anyway, I leave you with the video.
Enjoy!

And I’ll see you next time!
Cheers.
