Fujifilm X-T4 Problems And Why I Sent It For Repairs

Listen to the automated audio version of this article:

Only a few days ago, I talked about avoiding problems with Fujifilm X-T4 by keeping it clean (and how to do it). Unfortunately, my camera had a few other problems that couldn’t be solved by simply removing some dust.

You probably watched many videos about its qualities, but not many cover the Fujifilm X-T4 problems. And I wish I didn’t have to make this video either, but the issues have gone way too far now.
I always had problems with my Fujifilm X-T4, since when my pre-order unit was delivered to me. And today, 7 months, 20K photos and 25+ hours of video later… It’s time to send it back to Fujifilm to have it serviced!

I suppose that talking about the Fujifilm X-T4 problems is the kind of controversial video that will gather a lot of haters. And I’m ready for this. But I felt it was needed. I’m also sharing this video with Fujifilm themselves. So that their engineers can be better informed when they look into these Fujifilm X-T4 problems for me or for any other Fuji photographer.
This won’t be a video telling you not to buy the Fujifilm X-T4 or that it is “the biggest disappointment of the year”. Far from it, I love the camera, and to me, its benefits were very much worth the upgrade. However, my unit, as well as others, has been haunted by flaws. Something that, unfortunately, has plagued several cameras in the past as well that were part of the first units ready for pre-order.

Maybe you had issues as well. Well, with this video, I’m telling you that it’s not you; it’s them 😉

The Video

Now, if you want to know my 4 major Fujifilm X-T4 problems (and see a nice day-to-night timelapse), this video is for you. Problems with IBIS, autofocus, etc.

HUGE Fujifilm X-T4 Problems. Why I Sent It Back to Fujifilm Service

See you next time!

Update Dec 20th.

I received my X-T4 back from Fujifilm Services. The team was very quick and pretty informative in their reply. Although they have not addressed the focus-hunting issue nor replied to the glitchy timelapse. I will test those issues as soon as possible, but hopefully, a recalibration was all that was needed to fix my Fujifilm X-T4 problems.

Update Apr 2021

The timelapse is hit-and-miss, and I’ve experienced a complete lock of the camera twice. With nothing in common between the two events, so I’m left clueless.
The screen also keeps going completely blank whenever a single raindrop (or snowflake, see my video) hits the viewfinder. They may try to tell me it’s as intended but it didn’t happen with previous cameras and it’s a clear indicator of failing weather resistance. If it’s affected by the weather, it does not resist it, does it?

Update Aug 2022

Here’s another one. The sensor now goes blank when I look into the viewfinder (as expected) but doesn’t display anything when moving away from it until I switch it off and back on.
Apparently, I have used the camera too much (2 years, about 45K photos) and the sensor is “exhausted”. Had to send the camera back again to replace the sensor.
Also, after I got it back from repairs, it did a strange trick to me. I was using the X-T4 during some tests with a new lens and the camera reverted by itself to JPEG-only, Normal Quality. Only noticed when back at my computer.

I’m sure these were only my own Fujifilm X-T4 problems, not a general issue. But I haven’t been particularly lucky with this camera…
Let’s see if I’ll ever get an X-T5.
