I often say that it’s my duty to shoot sunset or even sunrise photography! I love landscapes and cityscapes, so I must take these pictures when the conditions are right! Of the two, sunrise photography can be more rewarding because it requires more effort.
First of all, from Spring to Autumn the time is not favourable. You need to wake up quite early to catch the sunrise. Better in Winter when you can have a sunrise past 7am. Also, fewer people capture sunrise photography, so you could stand out more.
Also, a good sunrise is a bit harder to forecast, particularly on a windy island like Great Britain, because the weather is ever-changing. During the night, you may not see the same indicators you use to spot a potentially good sunset. I mostly look at the high and low cloud movements on some weather apps, but you never know until you go out and wait.
But now it’s September, which means I had to go out at 4:30am to be there on time to shoot this photo and the YouTube video. I’m glad the weather cooperated this time!
The Video
So here it is! In this video, you see all the preparation and the actual sunrise, which was not the best I witnessed in London but it is still pretty high on the list.
In the second half of the video, I quickly show you how I then edit such a photo to achieve an even more spectacular result. Nothing too fake; I just like to fix the softness of the RAW files and render the colours as gorgeous as possible while keeping them real.

I won’t try sunrise photography too many other times before the colder season arrives, so I’m happy that this came out the way it did. I hope it can inspire you to get out and shoot even at such early hours! And if it’s something you already do, share it here: I want to see your photos!
